Unusual Christmas Customs
It may be just a rumour but it is popular folklore, the Germans genuinely use a pickle in their Christmas festivities. When German households furnish their Christmas trees, legend has it that the remaining ornament or bauble to be hung from the tree is a blown-glass ornament in the form of a pickle! This is then put on the tree well out of sight of the little ones who first thing in the morning rush down to try to locate where it's been concealed on the Christmas tree by the parents. Despite the fact that there are plenty of tales of this scenario, not one of them validate that this custom basically takes place! It still remains to be one of the most unusual practices we've heard about even if it's not accurate
Moving on and we can award Portugal, Spain and Italy with the gold medal for the ' most bizarre Christmas Tradition' award. You and I know the Nativity Story, but what about the additional individual according to the Portuguese, Spanish and Italians? Here comes the Caganer. Joining the shepherds along with Joseph, Mary and the little Jesus, is a small figurine called the Caganer, that is set just out of sight in nativity play scenes. Why is this character inconspicuously positioned that no one can see him if he is so significant? The Catalonia figure regarded as the Caganer is displayed..... how can I put this, having a poo!
Although this is an extremely odd tradition there are no records of it going back further than the seventeenth century. What meaning to Christmas a man squatting and having a poop continues to be unanswered then again it has been implied that the Caganer signifies the thought that God can offer himself and call to us anytime he deems it is necessary and show that whatever sex or race we are in the end all equal. Obviously children have made rather a game of it all!
Once Christmas starts it's recognized that we have got to keep the young children busy and we search for ways to entertain them. Well this custom is a little closer to home than we first thought despite how strange you think the tradition is! I kid you not, enter the pooing Santa! This naughty little chappy is a contemporary day reproduction of the Caganer! Candies literally fall out of Santa's behind if you touch it softly. Santa is donning his normal red clothing and the pooing Santa comes furnished with 15g of sweets to get you going. Simply load him up and push down on his back for a small surprise
If you're shopping for a more traditional Christmas product may we recommend the humble Christmas cracker? They have been a tradition in the Great Britain for over two hundred years and a Christmas turkey dinner will not be complete without having Christmas crackers. These days they've come to be more superior and gone are the days of cheap crackers to be superceded by top end luxury Christmas crackers. You'll be able to see a variety of traditionally designed Christmas crackers by browsing Classic Crackers today.
